I have a platinum Engagement Ring and was wondering if a White Gold ring, the wedding was going to be okay?
It's just the platinum price is outrageous. It will not to have put them together permanently, just carry the wedding ring to work and then used together before. Do you think anyone can tell?
Yes, it is perfectly fine to mix platinum rings and white gold, nobody will tell the differance – here's why: The two platinum and white Gold Plated with a metal called rhodium. White Gold Jewelry is usually plated with rhodium, gold because the metal is really yellow and when melted and the alloy (ie the mixture of other metals in it) to 'whiten' the gold still has a faintly yellow tinge. Rhodium gives that color is pure white gold chrome plated as white. Platinum, which is white, has to be plated with rhodium because platinum has a matte shine and not give us that bright mirror polish like silver or gold. So if it is a ring of white gold or platinum – are really looking for Rhodium (which, incidentally is much more expensive than either gold-about $ 1,000 an ounce, or Platinum – around $ 2,000 an ounce – currently rhodium is so rare and precious ranging from $ 7,000 an ounce!) Do not be swayed by the arguments that because platinum is more harder and stronger than gold, that the use of two Platinum Ring together "wear" gold. Platinum is harder than gold, of course, but the differance Is not that cool … eventually wear one another, but I think it will take 40 or 50 years for that to happen. Also, you said it will use the two tegether frequently. Its Rhodium Plated rings must be replat every few years, do not worry, most jewelers do – it's fast and not too expensive. I am a gemologist and have been in the jewelry business 30 years this year. Your question is very good and intelligent! Good luck!
