Problems with tungsten Wedding Band losing its shine.?
My husband has a Tungsten Carbide wedding band. When we purchased it, it had a beautiful shiny luster to it. After a few months, it began to lose its luster. Now it’s very dull and not shiny at all. The inside (the part that touches his finger) is still very shiny, but the outside isn’t. He doesn’t do a lot of hard labor or anything, and he takes it off when he’s lifting weights and things like that. Is there anything we can do to get the shine back? Thanks!
Yeah, I knew it wasn’t supposed to ever scratch, that’s why I’m so stumped. I’m wondering if it’s some kind of chemical reaction or something. The inside of the ring says tungsten carbide. I know they can say whatever they want though.
I’m doubting that it’s actually tungsten. Tungsten Carbide has a scratch resistance of 9 out of 10 on the mohs scale, where diamond is a ten. If the ring is made of titanium, then it can scratch…

a normal gold jeweler won’t be able to polish a tungsten ring because it’s not a material they normally work on… and because it’s so hard, it’s best to go to the manufacturer on that one.
