Will someone please let me know of different ways on buying an Engagement Ring?
The way I was going to do this would be to buy a platinum Band Ring with a really nice Center Diamond and then once we pick out the Wedding Ring to just take the center diamond from the engagement ring and use that on the wedding ring. This way she can choose whatever Ring Style she wants to have with the center diamond being the one I picked out. Would doing an engagement/wedding Ring Set be better?
I’d like to get some women’s opinions on this. This is supposed to be a surprise thing too.
Thanks for all the imput so far, as you can tell I am not familiar with the whole process. I will look at doing the set deal and also try White Gold instead of platinum. I will go the “romantic” way and pick out the set myself… hopefully she will like it.
If your goal is to basically surprise her with the diamond and then transfer it to a setting of her choice, the I recommend that you go with the cheapest 10K white Gold Setting.
If you get a Platinum setting, it’ll be very expensive if she doesn’t like it AND the jewelry store won’t allow exchanges.
Even if the store allows exchanges, they may not have the setting hat your fiancee would like.
10K white gold is very inexpensive compared to Platinum or Palladium.

Blue Nile’s database is good, but they don’t provide you with photos or analysis reports of the diamond. I wouldn’t go with them for that reason.
