Beginning as a draftsman
Caricature is fun, and having acquired the skill, is a wonderful way to make a good life. However, all world must start at the beginning, and here are some pointers to keep in mind as we set off.
Always use good quality materials, this should be pretty obvious, but it is surprising how many people try to cut corners by skimping. As with most crafts, it is always much more easy to use the best tools. You will use ink pens, the kind with a feather and ink to fall back, it sounds dated, but is this still the way to get best results and is used by most cartoonists today. You will need a broad nib, medium and fine, recommended are hunting No.512, No.513 and Esterbrook Hunt No 359. New feathers (feathers) should be moistened before use, use a fine damp cloth or tissue, or traditionally, your lips. This removes the oil film Fine used in packing to prevent oxidation, allowing the ink to adhere to the tip. The ink must be black and permanent, good quality, of course, perhaps Higgins.
Pencils, of course, you should always start with pencil drawings with a pencil and continue to develop their art until they feel confident to proceed with ink. As a general rule it is best to start drawing with light pencil lines that can be after the stroke and deletion. It is much easier to darken and strengthen line to do otherwise. Pencils should be "H" and since they are fairly cheap, keep a good stock. Keep them sharp, using a good quality sharprner, and pull (or give) away when they are not much more than half way down. As mentioned before, are inexpensive, and using a piece of pencil hand cramps.
To the make a drawing (in pencil) with the intention of the finished piece to be in ink, make your pencil lines as inconspicuous as possible. For purposes of reproduction of lines obviously have to be deleted. Again, a good quality eraser to use, there are many to choose from, but it is preferable to soft to hard, do not want to damage the paper / Carton. The pale pencil lines, unless it is necessary to wipe out, and lower the risk of partial obliteration of ink lines, or damage the surface. Also a heavy pencil line can make things confusing when you go over it with ink.
A softish pencil as "H" da freedom of the stroke. The harder the pencil the most affected the result, and also the most difficult to erase. In the first instance doodle all you can, do not worry too much about what you are drawing, just the feeling of pen on paper / cardboard and types of impact can be achieved by varying pressure, using the side of the paint and lead etc. Thus, little by little will develop your own style as he did when he was learning to write.
Take a piece white paper under your hand when it rests on a portion of the drawing in which pencil lines appear, this will prevent smudging. It deliberately deletions and smoothness
