Are simulated diamonds “real” diamonds even though they are man-made? What do you think?
My Wedding Set is 1.5 carats of man-made diamonds (Diamonique). It’s always troubled me that my ring wasn’t “real” (I know, I know, a bit shallow, but still…). Technically, are man-mades “real” or are they just impressive fakes? How do you feel about it?
Well, they are made of the same materials as real diamonds, they are just manufactured in a lab. They do look just like the real thing, though.
I guess I’m just trying to make myself feel better about it. 
I disagree. Diamonds are carbon, synthetic may be man made, but atomically speaking it’s still a diamond. If synthetics were made of something else I’d have to say no, but this isn’t the case. In fact synthetic diamonds are often grown from small Natural Diamonds. Also lets face it, the only reason diamonds are expensive to begin with is because the release is so heavily controlled by DeBeers. If you like the way it looks then should it really matter whether it grew naturally or whether it was helped along by man? Put a synthetic to a diamondsure it’ll read a synthetic diamond just as real as a natural. It is still a diamond.
Actually Ange there are a few other differences, graining and fluorescence patterns for example. Also the quality is a little subjective. You can very high clarity synthetics, but the average typically has a lot of platinum inclusions and or clouds throughout (Graded diamonds for over a year and a half so I’ve seen plenty of natural and synthetics) I do however agree entirely that they are in fact real, the carbon crystal structure is the same, and lets face it you can’t get any more “the same” than on the atomic level.

Fake Diamonds vs. Real Diamonds – Which Are Right For You?
There seems to be two schools of thought when it comes to the issue of fake diamonds: in one camp, you have people who think they are the Best Deal in the world, and in the other camp, you have people who wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a fake diamond!
Many of these conflicting opinions come from the marketing the drives the diamond industry. The concept that diamonds are “forever” is ingrained into many people’s heads, and as a result the demand for diamonds rises and prices rise accordingly. Over the past few decades, this has created a rise in the popularity of fake diamonds due to people who don’t want to pay such high prices for real diamonds.
Some people will choose to use a “fake diamond,” such as a Cubic Zirconia or moissanite, in place of a real diamond for financial reasons. With real diamonds, a high quality 1 Carat Diamond in a nice setting in an engagement Ring Can run between $5,000-$10,000 or more! A cubic zirconia of equivalent size, on the other hand, will likely be under $50. And many people will choose to go this route but then have the cubic zirconia set into a nice setting from a jewelry store, and the result is a ring that no one will be able to tell is fake without examining it in a lab. And by going with a fake diamond, these people have just saved thousands of dollars that can be used to pay off debt, make a down payment on a home, or go on vacation.
Of course, some people only want the real thing. It comes down to individual choice. But it is worth it to do some research on fake diamonds vs. real diamonds so you can justify your choice.
