What is the real meaning to the lyrics in Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd?
I just need someone to explain the meaning of the lyrics to me in a clear, concise way. I love the song, but I’m afraid I don’t quite understand what it’s trying to say.

It’s about former bandmate, Syd Barrett. It laments on the times they had when they were younger, since they were all childhood friends, minus David Gilmour who joined later on. The drugs took its toll on Syd and he was never the same to the other bandmembers. The entire Dark Side of the Moon album is tied into Syd’s downfall, as well.
