What men and women think of services where the foreigners come to them and thank them in public?
I see men and women out of service all the time, and makes my chest swell up, and I would like to know I appreciate what they do, how I can express my gratitude? Many are very humble and only see it as a job and get red in the face.
They see their service in the U.S. Armed Forces as work and when someone thanks for "making their work ", which embarrassed. When you go through the door in one of the bases of many here in SE Virginia and a soldier at the door, then show them my id always say, "Thank you for serving our country. God bless you." They are surprised. Sailorl A young woman was actually able to mumble, "Thank you" and had tears in his eyes. As a retired sailor (and for that matter ANY veterinarian) is authorized and encouraged to make a proper greeting when normally be natural if one was in uniform. I was doing work on the naval base and across the field from which a command had a flag pole. When the colors and the anthem was played National was played at 8 am, and I was out, I stood at attention and saluted appropriate. I had seen the sailors ran for building care the colors rang. Disgusting! On the way to work often see a Ford Pick-up with an ex-USMC sticker sticker and a Viet Nam vet in the window of his back (gunny sergeant). Like riding my motorcycle MOST of the time, and as I get along side you turn to him and say hello. It has come to say hello to my back. I've been in traffic lights and have a military next to me (short hair, base sticker) and leaned over and said, "Thank you for serving our country," and paid tribute. It is surprising as I'm sure that rarely or never get told that. I stopped at a grocery store and had my leather and vest (with some patches, one that indicates it was a Vietnam veteran. A guy my age approached me with his wife and was wearing a baseball cap that had a Vietnam service ribbon on it. I slipped my hand and said, "Thank you for serving our country and WELCOME HOME BROTHER!" He shook my hand, and then I pulled her close and hugged me with tears in his eyes. Dio step back and said, "Thanks. Nobody has ever said that. "Even his wife had tears in her eyes. Sorry for walks.
