Was there something wrong with the Engagement Ring?
Someone that I know recently got engaged. The ring he picked out for her is a gold marquise, the size is .72 carats and supposedly it is certified. Well the retail value was $5,000. He paid $2200 w/ tax! I don’t know much about rings but to me it sounds like it’s one of those things that ‘too good to be true.’ I wonder if someone first bought it, and took it back? Or if there is something wrong with it? Any ideas? I’m curious to hear any feedback on this! Thanks!
It sounds a bit suspect. But if your friend is happy, then that’s what counts. Perhaps he purchased it from someone who needed to trade in their diamond for money. The resale marked of prior owned diamonds can be very low. He may have purchased it from a pawn shop. The price of the marquis and the setting sounds too low. On the other hand there are other factors to consider besides the size of the diamond, color and clarity. If the color on the Marquis is very low i.e., I/J/K then the price may make sense. But the Marquis will have a very ‘warm’ look to it.
