My mother bought a set of antique lamps .. how much are they worth?
I've been searching the Internet for over an hour and can not find a picture of them. These lamps are electric and have a glass globe is amber or light orange and has a pattern of grapes and oak. At the base is the inscription L & LWMC 1971. Both the lamps work but the guy who sells the pair of us for $ 5 had cast shadows, they were very dusty. If anyone can help to find a picture and what they are selling … I appreciate it ….. thanks! The oak leaf is a model that does not … tree .. She gave me, I'm trying to help to find how much they are worth.
Hello. Without a photo it is impossible to say. Since 1971, not antiques. It seems to be a hurricane or "Gone with the Wind "style lamp. Carefully check the glass for signatures or marks, are sometimes very difficult to see unless you catch the right light or use a black light. I have seen an increased lamp WMC L & L $ 200.00 go to a vintage / antique shop. A 1970 L & lamp recently LWMC sold on eBay for 120. I've also seen these lamps sold as unmarked Fenton, another marked Tiffa-Mini, which may have been a mark of Westmoreland glass, but again without seeing … so hard to say. Another light with a L & LWMC background, signed D. Schnuppe in the crystal, another Plymouth Harlee marked on the glass. L & LWMC was probably metal parts manufacturer of these lamps. There was a company L & LW Metal Company L & L White Metal Casting located in Carlstadt, NJ until 1974. In other words, this firm base or metal parts and sold them to various glass and china companies. You can try to contact the Historical Society New Jersey for more information about the company and take your search from there. Guide to Antique Bedroom Furniture
Whether you’ve invested in a lovely set of antique bedroom furniture, inherited an heirloom collection or got lucky at a flea market, fixing up a collection of antique bedroom furniture presents questions that aren’t found with new furniture.
Asking Before Tasking
The first question is how much is too much? Refinishing antique bedroom furniture can reduce its value. A quick investigation into its history and worth can provide this answer. Check for the mark of the manufacturer or craftsman and any indication of the year it was made. If there is such information, do all of the pieces of your set match in this regard? If the furniture is valued because of its origin, having a Matching Set is that much more valuable.
How much refinishing does it need? Minor repairs shouldn’t diminish the value of the set and an ordinary cleaning won’t hurt at all. Except for the replacement of the parts that really enhance the value, restoring the furniture should be fine. If you acquired the set because you like the period look, do the work or have it done. By all means, retain the unique character of the furniture. Even if it’s not worth a Great Deal of money, that unique character is a kind of value that antique bedroom furniture has.
So first, determine the possible value. Second, decide how much repair is needed. Third, try to restore the antique bedroom furniture to its original glory.
